Unmounted Meetings:

Unmounted meetings are set up as a meeting where all members attend without their horses or ponies. These meetings are structured around Horse Management instruction and the USPC Standards of Proficiency.  At BHPC, we generally meet once or twice a month for unmounted meetings.

Some examples of topics are:

-  Feed and Pasture Management

-  Shoeing

-  Equine First Aid and Emergency Care

-  Different Types of Tack and Uses

-  Identification of Breeds, Colors, and Markings

Please refer to our calendar for dates and topics.

Mounted Meetings:

As the weather warms, our club begins to focus on the development of our members riding skills. We offer mounted meetings throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. We bring in a variety of instructors to accommodate all disciplines and riding levels. The primary of focus is based upon the USPC mounted Standards of Proficiency and interests of our members.

Mounted meetings may also be used at instructional preparation for Rallies. (please refer to our calendar for more information)

Members must register for mounted meetings a minimum of 14 days prior to the scheduled date in order to participate.  This includes providing an annual copy of coggins and immunizations for all participating horses to the DC.

Independent Learning

It is expected that each member will take time independently to read the USPC manuals as to their independent level of proficiency, as well as utilize other USPC resources to facilitate their independent growth in knowledge of horse care and management. It is expected that each member will facilitate continued growth in their individual riding skills through regular lessons, participation in clinics, through riding regularly, and through practicing horse management skills to their individual level of proficiency regularly.
